Education:
Leidy M. Mena, a Magna Cum Laude Family Science undergraduate student from the University of Maryland, obtained her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health in August 2009. During her graduate work she presented some of her research at several conferences, taught undergraduate discussion courses, and successfully defended her thesis, all while developing and nurturing her skills as an individual, couple and family therapist in one of the top programs in the nation.
Professional:
Most of Leidy’s experience is community based which is very much in line with the systemic thinking that she brings into the therapy room. Leidy has experience running parenting workshops, children’s groups, support groups, social skills groups, and working with integrative early intervention models in the school. Professional memberships include: American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist, Conference Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Division of Marriage and Family Therapist, and is a proud participant and supporter of in the Greater Washington Latino Mental Health Network. Personal:
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Leidy has lived in the Washington DC area for most of her life. Growing up in such a culturally diverse area has really influenced her emphasis in diversity and cultural sensitivity. Her passion lies in providing mental health services to the underprivileged immigrant population in the Washington DC area and advocating for policies that benefit the well-being of children and families.
